Personal Experience
As one of five children in an active family, I grew up playing and loving sports from a very young age. In high school I played volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis competitively. From there I went on to play college basketball at California State University East Bay and was later inducted to the CSUEB Hall of Fame in 2010. I cherish the opportunities and lifelong friendships that sports have provided. Now days I continue to play basketball, beach volleyball, ride bikes, lift weights, hike, swim, do yoga and watch sunsets. In addition to being physically active, I also love a good book and spending time with my family and friends.
Professional Experience
Being active has been an incredibly positive experience in my life and encouraging students form a young age to set healthy physical fitness habits is what motivates me. I knew early on that becoming a Physical Education teacher was a perfect match for my skills and interests. After completing my teaching credential at CSUEB, I taught at Cesar Chavez and Barnard-White Middle Schools in Union City. While raising three kids of my own, I taught PE part time at Alameda Christain School for grades K-8th grade. In addition to my professional teaching experience, I have enjoyed over 10 years of coaching in the Alameda Youth Basketball and Soccer leagues. Also I have been blessed to be able to help coach some of my youngest brothers Special Olympics teams.
